Nicola L.: Life and Art explores the career and life of pioneering female artist Nicola L. Her work challenged the concept of identity, gender, and the body long before the current dialog. In 1965 Nicola burned the majority of her paintings and moved into a more experimental period in which she opted for interaction with the audience: wall-mounted canvases that could be worn as costumes, sculptures that doubled as seats, coats designed for many people to wear at once, or films about radical political figures.
